About this test

Grass pollen is one of the most common allergens in the world. It causes an allergic reaction known as seasonal allergies. Wind, people, and pets can also carry pollen indoors, meaning it can affect you even if you stay inside.

Grass pollen allergy symptoms are similar to other pollen allergies. The intensity of your symptoms depends on:

  • The severity of your grass pollen allergy
  • The amount of pollen you're exposed to
The most common grass pollen allergy symptoms include:
  • Itchy eyes/throat
  • Sneezing
  • Blocked/runny nose
  • Watering, red eyes (allergic conjunctivitis)
  • Headaches
  • Blocked sinuses
  • Post-nasal drip

Grass allergies occur when you breathe in pollen coming from the type of grass that causes your immune system to attack. If you suspect a grass allergy but haven't received a diagnosis yet, your doctor may do a skin test to determine the existence of your allergies and to see what exactly may be causing them.

Grass allergies can present in a variety of ways, including nasal symptoms (runny nose, stuffiness, sneezing), asthma, and eye symptoms (itchy, watery/red eyes). People can also have skin rashes (hives or skin welts) after exposure to grasses, but this is much less common.
